BNA DFW SFO : Adventures of Drool!

Estimated Read Time: 3 Minutes!

This is my 3rd MOB, mobilization, into Naval Weapons Station, Concord, CA know known as MATCO in the last month!

I've been ridiculously paid for sitting in my truck watching scrapers and dozers push dirt around…until it rains. Funny thing about heavy equipment trying to operate in mud!

The downside is the loss of hours due to weather but the upside is pretty kick ass!

With all of the MOB and DMOB's, I've tripled my air miles for the op so far. Many of the airlines do miles or segments to reach elite status. I've been working Delta hard over the past few years but this year I'm getting Delta, United and American.

I've already got free flights with Southwest, United and Delta. Hotel points are progressing nicely after depleting my Hilton Honors due to scheduling rooms for my divers in NYC.

I've been staying at the Embassy Suites for the duration of this op so most of my gear is in the back room so I'm not dragging all of it back and forth. It's easier to drag one bag than two especially on the journey which is baggage claim to the car rental station at SFO.

Up early this morning to make sure I'm adequately caffeinated and have time to pack the smaller day-to-day stuff and the laptop.

Getting dressed this morning, I wondered why bother when I have to get undressed to go through security. I travel in dark clothes so I can spill anything on me but will go unnoticed after it dries. I did have a flight attendant pour a drink on me. She said it was an accident! Maybe! I try to get the isle seat so you take your licks from time to time.

4 eggs and coffee later, I'm off to BNA. Never surprises me how bad drivers are at all times of the morning. The car in front of me stopped on green and turned left on red. And people ask if UXO work is dangerous!

I do wear dark jeans, a black button down long sleeve shirt untucked and black sport coat. When begging for emergency exit row seat or an upgrade to business, it's better to dress better. You'll have an easier time/luck if you're dressed well rather than sweats and flip flops.

I did get the emergency row isle for both BNA to DFW and DFW to SFO.

Through security and dressed again, I'm off to the bookstore to get my $5 bottle of water. Being a bit synical after going through security and on the way to the book store, I recalled one of the biggest a-hole authors Tucker Max. He wrote I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell . If you ever want to get pissed off and throw something, Tucker's your man. On a whim, I stroll over to the Best Sellers section.

I'm mad because Max's new book, Hilarity Ensues , is number 7 on the Best Sellers List. I hate him! $28 later (at the airport bookstore, not here!) I'm walking out the book store hoping no one sees me carrying his book.

Like cows to slaughter, it's time to board…elite cows, cows with small children and cows needing assistance…maybe it should be lemmings.

By the time the flight attendant got to me, those sitting around me were wondering what I was laughing at. I tried to stop laughing long enough to get my coffee. The attendant wondered what I was reading as well. Flipped the book out to show her and she started laughing.

Sitting in DFW. Must be the oldest part of the airport. Kinda like the Riveria in Vegas…worn.

Let the herding begin!

Boring and uneventful flight from DFW to SFO with the exception of the guy snoring next to me. At least he didn't drool.

Shaun picked me up with the rental. One of the benefits of working UXO is driving a brand new truck. You can drive or you can fly to an op. It's your call. I like having my own truck. I get 55 cents per mile driving from home to the op and everyday to and from the hotel.

I pulled up to the Embassy Suites only to find there are no rooms. Since I'm working Hilton Honors and am already Diamond status, I was able to actually stay at a Hilton. I got the executive suite which includes access to the executive lounge allowing me free drinks in the evenings and free breakfast in the mornings.

So in review, I billed 8 hours for the day, racked up more frequent flyer miles, found a better hotel with free breakfast and free drinks, am driving a new SUV around northern California and read a book that will be sure to piss anyone off!

Is UXO worth it? I dare say so!
