Do technical backgrounds help UXO pay
by: Steve Cassidy

Charles - Thank you for your question about technical backgrounds helping UXO pay or in your specific case as a journeyman electrician.

The short answer in no it does not help your hourly pay but it can help your pay overall by understanding electricity which will benefit you when doing electric explosives work.

The ability to communicate and understand fuze functioning and the mechanics of UXO work certainly gives the employer a better feeling about your abilities vs someone that has never had a career or marketable skill set.

Any technical trade skills will help you in UXO school and your career moving forward as you'll have a better understanding of what the SUXOS is looking for as you've more than likely worked under supervision.

I highly recommend all persons with a Trades background to take a serious look at UXO.

Again, it won't help your hourly pay but it can help your annual pay by being requested by more people for more contracts.

Hope this helps. If you have additional questions, please either continue this comment chain or start a new one.
