On the road

Hi Steve

If I could have a moment of your time. I'm very interested in this field. I have a background in explosives. Before I pursue this career I want to know if you can stay in a particular area.

I'm from north Texas and would like to stay near home. My wife doesnt want me gone to long and doesnt want to live in a motel room and she is happy with her career.

Please help me with my situation. If you know of any companies that stay in the Texas area with the occasional cross country trip. I would love to get in contact with them.

Thanks for your help.

Great question!

It is possible to stay at home and work as long as there's a bombing range, active or inactive, that is being worked...and you can get hired on to...which is actually easier than you think.

Due to wage rates and Per Diem, you're only entitled to Per Diem if you travel more than 50 miles from your residence. If you're within that range, you're expected to stay home and therefore, don't need Per Diem.

Now a smart company will still bill the government or the customer for your Per Diem which goes straight to the company bottom line vs your pocket. That's a win for the company.

Do a little research and find out what's in your area.

Good luck and keep us posted on what you're doing.
