Concerning UXO with private securtiy part 2

by Clovis
(Mississippi)

Thank you for your response.

Recently I read Triple Canopy's website. It stated that they were looking for prior EOD or "equivalent."

I assumed that the equivalent would be higher risk civilian UXO with a secondary position being armed security in order to eliminate any possible threat (if that even exist).

To me that sounds more fairytale than reality. It also seems redundant. Please correct if I am wrong.

I am prior military but have no experience in any special ops or EOD. Since going back in is not what I want to do; all of my schooling and employment would have to be civilian.

My question is: Does this path of civilian UXO/armed security within the same team even exist (as in, do the technicians holsters weapons or do they just duck for cover if something goes wrong?) and if so what route would you recommend? I am highly motivated.

Just, need to be pointed in the right direction.

P.S. I do plan on going to TEEX. Awesome that I got my name in the lottery.

Thanks Again.

UXO or Security Part 2
by: Steve Cassidy

Clovis,

Thanks for expounding on your question for further clarification.

I was actually surprised years ago that EOD/UXO OCONUS were not authorized (wink) personal weapons under the direction of the US Army Corp of Engineers.

Reality is one thing but the written law is another.

Combining the two, although making sense, is not used. EODT and Triple Canopy are probably the closest but USACE rules the day!

From an EOD/UXO perspective, we bill out at a higher rate than security.

My professional advice is to go as UXO and let terms on the ground be your guide.

You'll make more money and probably have a lot more "fun" than those sitting a static post.

Hope this answers your question. Of course you can always ask all you want. That's why I'm here.

And yes, I'm putting your name in again for the TEEX UXO School giveaway.

Doing Security with UXO Ops

by Clovis
(Flowood, MS USA)

I was interested in your comment concerning getting the weapons permit and pulling security. I have a weapons permit and I will be attending an UXO school this year. You said the money is great, so I was wondering what companies hire for both UXO and security, as I am highly interested in both.

Security and UXO Companies
by: Steve

Clovis,

Thank you for your question and the great news is there are companies that are doing both security and UXO!

First one that comes to mind is EODT located in East Tennessee. Sammie Hawkins is their recruiter. She's a great lady so be very nice if you make contact with her.

EODT started as an UXO company and brought security in to take care of the guys doing UXO work. Why outsource your security? Smart move on their part.

I've been seeing other typical security companies looking for EOD and UXO. One of the big ones is Triple Canopy. Again, great reputation.

I personally work with DynCorp on the US State Department's QRF. It's EOD but clearly DynCorp has security as well.

My suggestion is if you're a shooter, go to UXO school and if you're UXO, go take a shooting package. Either way you WIN.

Make sure you get your HAZWOPER certification as federal oversight is increasing and with hurricane season approaching quickly, those with HAZWOPER will be more employable and bill at a higher rate.

Hope this answers your question. By the way, for submitting your question and getting it published, you now have 10 entries in the drawing to win a FREE seat at TEEX UXO school.

Be Globally Employable,

Steve
